How to Create Inner Peace

Updated: Oct 1

As a meditation teacher and mindfulness coach, this is one of the questions I get asked most often! Inner peace is INVALUABLE, and once you cultivate it, it truly cannot be taken away from you. These are 3 simple steps to creating peace + tranquility within.

1. Make space. If you are filled to the brim with worries, there is no place for peace to grow. Clear out your old thoughts by journaling stream of consciousness, screaming into a pillow (or on a mountaintop––my personal fave), or venting to a pet, houseplant, or kind friend. Set a timer for 10 minutes, and when you are complete, say I release these worries beyond my control to something far greater than I. Just like we let go of food waste from our bodies every day, we also must clear out our minds daily.

2. Plant seeds. We grow peace by thinking peaceful thoughts intentionally. Meditate daily on these mantras:

  • I am loving awareness.

  • Where I live is here and now.

  • The universe is taking great care of me.

  • I accept myself as I am and others as they are.

Nurture the seeds you planted. What conditions allow your seeds of peace to grow? Deep breathing, meditation, nature, and music help me. So does drinking lots of water and eating satisfying foods! Do you love to walk at the park? Do you feel especially calm when you play piano, or talk with your sister, or work in the garden?
